Apply for authorisation to operate or significantly change the operation of a technical X-ray facility
You require a licence from the competent authority for radiation protection to operate or significantly change the operation of technical X-ray equipment that requires a licence. Among other things, X-ray equipment that is to be operated outside an X-ray room or X-ray equipment in technical radiography for coarse structure analysis in materials testing requires a licence. When you apply for a licence, the competent authority will check the documents you have submitted. If all requirements are met, you will receive a licence.

Prerequisite
- There are no concerns regarding the reliability of the person responsible for radiation protection or the person authorised to represent them and the appointed radiation protection officers.
- The number of radiation protection officers necessary for the safe performance of the activity has been appointed.
- The radiation protection officers have been granted the necessary powers to fulfil their duties.
- The radiation protection officers have the necessary expertise in radiation protection.
- If no radiation protection officer has been appointed, the person submitting the application has the necessary expertise in radiation protection.
- The personnel required for the safe performance of the activity are available.
- It is ensured that the persons working have the necessary knowledge and skills with regard to the possible radiation hazard and the protective measures to be applied.
- The equipment is available and the safety regulations are complied with.
- This is a justified type of activity and there are no other public law regulations to the contrary.

- Test report of the expert
- Radiation protection instruction according to § 45 Radiation Protection Ordinance (StrlSchV)
- Plans and drawings of the structural and technical radiation protection facilities (e.g. floor plan of the X-ray room, site plan)
- extract from the commercial or partnership register, if applicable
- copy of the notification of the person responsible for radiation protection,if applicable
- if applicable, copy of the letter from the authorised representative regarding the transfer of tasks and duties to the radiation protection officer
- current certificate of good conduct of the person responsible for radiation protection or the authorised representative
- current certificates of good conduct of the appointed radiation protection officers, if applicable
- copies of the letters of appointment of the radiation protection officers, if applicable
- if applicable, copies of the certificates of competence of the appointed radiation protection officers (or of the person responsible for radiation protection if no radiation protection officers have been appointed) including proof of the last update
