Apply for the "Blue Angel" eco-label

Products and services labelled with the Blue Angel are more environmentally friendly than comparable, conventional products and services.

Every time you buy a product or service, you make a direct or indirect decision about the impact on water, soil, air or your own health.

To enable you to base your purchasing decisions on environmental aspects, you need reliable and trustworthy information about the environmental and health effects of a product. This is exactly where the Blue Angel can help you.

You must apply to have your products or services labelled with the "Blue Angel". The right to use the "Blue Angel" is valid for 3 years.

Procedure

First check whether there are already Basic Award Criteria for the Blue Angel for your product or service. You have the following options:

  • if there is an existing Basic Award Criteria: You can apply to the German Institute for Quality Assurance and Labelling (RAL) to use the Blue Angel. Since 1 July 2020, new applications or changes have only been possible online via the WEB PORTAL.
  • There is not yet an existing basis for awarding the Blue Angel, but your product or service is already entered in the list of current test applications: You can apply for the use of the Blue Angel in writing to the Federal Environment Agency, Office of the Environmental Label Jury, in Dessau.
  • for a new proposal: You can apply for use of the Blue Angel in writing to the Federal Environment Agency, Office of the Environmental Label Jury, in Dessau.

If the requirements for using the "Blue Angel" are met, the competent bodies will conclude a time-limited label utilisation contract with you.
You may use the "Blue Angel" to advertise your product or service.

  • product-related, informal application on the applicant's company letterhead, stating the federal state in which the applicant is based
    • the production site of the products to be labelled is located, or
    • the place of business is located.
  • Test report:
    The test report is issued by a neutral testing institute and provides information that the award criteria for the "Blue Angel" have been met.
  • Consumer information
  • Expected turnover of the products or services labelled with the ecolabel in the year of application (if no contract for use of the label has yet been concluded)

Costs

The costs are based on the turnover generated with the product or service.

  • You are submitting the application for a product that is included in the list of current test orders or
  • it is a new proposal
